CONSCIENTIOUS
MARKETING OF CATTLE
We market most
of our customers' cattle; always after full consultation with them. All
customers are treated the same and benefit from any information we have
on the markets. Packer buyers from all the major packers regularly visit
the feedlot and we are in the market daily. We get information from Nebraska
Cattlemen's market service, USDA, and have commodity screens; so we get
information fast and "stay up" on the market. We are not a futures
broker, but we can advise or alert you to opportunities and strategies.
If so desired, we can forward contract cattle directly to packers. There
are no fees for any of these services.
Close to the Major
Packers. We are less then 200 miles to Tyson, Swift, Excel, and about
250 miles from the two Omaha packers, Nebraska Beef and Greater Omaha.
These 7 major plants have a combined daily capacity of over 22,000 head.
RETAINED OWNERSHIP
& VALUE-BASED MARKETING
AT BASSETT
FEEDING we have been custom feeding and working with ranchers on retained
ownership since 1973. We have a great deal of experience that we are glad
to share. We will always work hard for you, keep up on your cattle, and
know you when you walk in the door. We are set up to give you the extra
service and your cattle the extra care that is sometimes required. It
makes the whole feeding experience more comfortable.
Much is happening
in the industry and all of us are looking for better opportunities to
market our cattle. Two goals are: 1) To make more money; and, 2) To provide
the consumer with a high quality product. All segments of the industry
need to be involved. Retained ownership, in addition to added profit opportunities,
can offer producers important information to evaluate their cattle--knowing
their feedlot performance and carcass quality.

Will you be paid
more for better cattle? Several value-based marketing programs and alliances
promise that. But, sometimes fees and commissions, sometimes carcass discounts,
and sometimes market timing end up costing a producer more than any premiums.
Any alternative marketing programs have to be understood and managed to
yield premiums. Since the goals of most of the programs are to improve
your
profits and your
cattle, we would like all the programs to work; but we feel you should
be hard-nosed and ask tough questions. We have, and we would discuss the
pros and cons of each program with you.
THE BOTTOM LINE IS
WHAT COUNTS! We do everything we can to market your fat cattle in whatever
manner will get you the most money! We also participate in any and all
value-based programs that we think are up-front, honest and fair. We can
help evaluate your cattle by sharing all the information we have; getting
carcass data or any other information that is helpful; and -- something
we hope is very valuable -- giving you our honest opinion.
NO BULL!
If there
are problems with your cattle, the weather or whatever, you know about
it NOW -- not when the feeding period is over. Projections are approached
conservatively and we don't pad anything to make it look better. There
are risks in cattle feeding, but if there weren't risks there wouldn't
be profits either. (By the way, we do feed some bulls!)
